Nick Catford's superb ever-expanding site of
the UK's disused stations. |
 |
Some great evocative photos of the Northern Heights
line as it was in 1970. From the lens of Peter Wright. (Peter
also corrected the erroneous code on this site's index page -
twice!). |
 |
"Disused stations, abandoned railways, old
buildings and railway walks - we love 'em!" - Urban 75's
interesting site. |
 |
The Buckingham Railway Centre, based at the old
Quainton Road station, has lovingly restored the station to that
of an authentic 1930s Metropolitan Line station, as well as being
home to a multitude of steam and other locomotives. Well worth
a visit. |
 |
London had the world's first underground railways
and consequently also led the way in initial planning errors,
which led to so many of its stations being closed. Nice to know
then that other cities are not immune. This site features the
disused stations in Toronto. |
 |
Hywel Williams' disused tube stations site. Curiously
compliments this site in that it covers the few stations not
featured here. |
 |
Has scans of maps of the London Underground maps
from the present day back to their inception. Takes ages to load
though because of the number of images. |
 |
A site explaining the proposed new shopping centre
at the Wood Lane station site (Flash plug-in required). |
 |
Nick Catford's excellent photographs of Wood
Lane station. There are also great shots of the Camden Catacombs
and other subterrania. |
 |
The official site of the Epping to Ongar Railway
company. They have managed to re-open the line and provide a
service of sorts but this cynic believes it will be short lived,
given the work they still need to complete in order to get a
renewal of their licence to run a railway. Get there while you
can. |
 |
There are quite a few sites featuring Down Street
(because of the tours LUL used to run there). This is one of
them from Jonathan Hall. |
 |
Dr. James Fox has some good photos of Brompton
Road on this site. |
 |
An honourable mention for a site adding a welcome
dose of irreverent humour to the underground. Curiously part
of the BBC's website. |
 |
Cornwall has its fair share of disused railways.
Chris Sawle's site provides a good chronicle of them. |
 |
Future works: www.alwaystouchout.com - a comprehensive
site listing details of all proposed transport works in London. |

Future works: londonconnections.blogspot.com
- public transport projects in London. |
 |
It is perhaps hard to believe that artistic photos
of the highest quality could be taken of a subject as unpromising
as the underground. Graham Goldwater has done it though. |
 |
Slightly more recent photos but of a similar
calibre from Robert Stainforth. |
 |
Site with general railway photos spanning a few
decades. Some Broad Street ones dating from 1970 in there somewhere. |
 |
Fascinating site dealing comprehensively with
derelict London. |
 |
Mark Russell's Abandoned Past site. |
 |
Photos from the cab view of a 1988 Kentish Town
- Blackfriars journey. |
 |
Some photos of the area around Holborn on the
day of a collision between two trains on the Central Line. |
 |
A few photos of the remains of the Malta Railway. |
 |
Site dealing with historic railway accidents
and safety. |
 |
It's possible to get lost navigating around this
site but it seems that whoever it is has managed to visit and
photograph most of the stations on the London Underground! |
 |
The iRail site: an enormous collection of links
to allsorts of railway sites. |
 |
A site showing some of Glasgow's abandoned stations. |
 |
Well, the language and fonts are Russian, so
it won't mean much to most Westerners but there are some interesting
photos of the Moscow subway here. |
 |
Comprehensive photographic site of London. |

Alasdair Goes To Europe - an amusing account
of a visitor's trip to London. |
