Intended as a station between Hampstead and Golders
Green, the decision to abandon the project was taken only after
the lower parts of the station had already been constructed.
Surface access was only provided in the 1950s when the below
ground area was used a floodgate control room. A staircase and
a manually operated lift provided the access from top to bottom.
